Theatre directors seem to have a particular talent for taking a great work and ruining it with gratuitous interpretation, betraying a lack of confidence in the source material in a desperate search for “relevancy”. And then inflicting it on a captive audience. Thankfully, if La Boite‘s revival of Long Gone Lonesome Cowgirls is any guide, David Fenton is not one of those directors.
